The Bisnett's played hooky from Jake's soccer yesterday morning to enjoy a perfect fall day at Stokoe Farms, the best farm around! We all enjoyed going down the giant slide (even Giana, sans ventilator!) on burlap sacks. All of the kids got to pet little baby chicks, ride on the little train, go on the hayride, and a few of us even rode on the zip-line. Eli asked why the piggies were in time out, lol! I love that place!
After that, a trip to BJ's to help keep them in business, quick stop to Weggies, then home to get my cooking groove on. I offered the boys the opportunity to help put together homemade pizza's but they were only interested in grazing by occasionally for bites of pepperoni. While the pizza's were a'bakin' I put together a couple apple butterscotch tarts. If you like apple pie, this tart will take your taste buds to a new level. In fact, here's the recipe:
Tanya Gome's Apple-Butterscotch Tart
In a tart pan or pie plate - bake at 350 degrees for 45 min
Mix together 3/4 c. flour, 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1c. butterscotch chips, a sprinkle of cinnamon, a sprinkle of nutmeg, 5 c. sliced apples....dump into pie crust, dot w/butter or margarine and bake. Mmmmm....so good.
Back to my story, Miss Giana and her lovely nurse Mindy did keep me company in the cucina. Giana kept busy throwing toys off of her high chair, licking the seasoning off of Cool Ranch Doritos, and trying pizza crust. Meanwhile, the boys had a movie party in the living room watching Fred Claus and working on their dance moves.
Jacob has recently decided that T-ball is his favorite of the sports he plays. Phew, does that mean we're off the hook from watching him pout on the soccer field? He's had a fantastic start to 1st grade so far and seems to truly love school.
Benjamin, our sweet Ben. Ben has been adjusting well to the routine of pre-K although focusing on the task at hand isn't always his strength. We're working with him to find ways to manage his nervousness and have fun while learning.
Ben was recently gifted a kitten, yes a kitten! Jill, a nurse that we stole from the nicu, thought it would be cute to bring Benny a 7wk old kitten for his birthday. Those of you who know me know exactly how I feel about cats. This little guy is very cute but I am a practical gal and if it was up to me we wouldn't keep it. Ben calls it 'his baby' and has been taking very good care of it. Eli's the one we worry about. We have gone back and forth through some names knowing that if the kitten was indeed named, we owned it. After tossing around Dunkin, George, and Ralph, the kitty was coined yesterday by Rob...Nine. Tony Romo's number (Cowboys) and the idea that kitty will need all nine (or more!) of his lives to survive around here.
All four boys are involved in Awana club at our church this year. We're thrilled that Eli has a place there. Jake is a Spark, Ben is a Cubbie, and Eli is a Puggle. The focus is teaching the kids about Jesus and having them learn some bible verses. It's such a great program. Eli came home the other night to tell us his verse "in the beginning, God created...and then He turned the lights on". He's such a funny little guy with an amazing grasp on language. We're still laughing about it! After many efforts to get Ben to go, this year he's a big boy and looks forward to going. :) Oh, and Rob is the Awana Gym director. He's having a blast playing games with each of the different age groups in the gym. I think it totally suits him.
Giana has been busy learning new words each day, still jumping around like crazy in her jumparoo, and even working on standing up at the sofa with support behind her. We've placed her in her walker a few times lately and she easily walks backwards in it.
The little princess has a liking for strong flavored foods lately and tonight tried chicken and spinach farfalle pasta with alfredo sauce. Baby food is out. Whatever we're eating is in! She's experimenting more and more with her voice and we love-love-love to hear it. Now that there's a chill in the air G is wearing long sleeves - she looks at them like they are alien because it's been so long since she's worn them. G has also begun to find it funny to smack people in the face if they get close enough to hers. She smacks Mindy an awful lot, hopefully she doesn't call OSHA!
Her rib surgery is coming up on 10/22. We are excited and nervous at the same time. It's all in God's hands as always. We're praying for a smooth surgery and a speedy recovery. It's been nice to have her home and healthy for such a long stretch. The long days and months that she was in the nicu are finally becoming a distant memory. Our days are so full and we treasure every minute that we're all together as a family.
That's our latest news in a big giant box.
Blessings! Dana
